Sick Nigerian President Returns: Trouble For Goodluck?

24 Feb

The BBC has reported that the Nigerian President Umaru Yar’Adua returned home to Nigeria this morning after undergoing treatment for a heart and kidney condition in Saudi Arabia.

The president’s plane landed at around 3am GMT in Abuja airport where an ambulance was on standby to transport him to the presidential villa.

Yar’Adua’s three month absence has quickly become a point of agitation for Nigerians whose patience seems at an all time low. So, the immediate issue is now that Yar’Adua is back where does this leave Vice President, Goodluck Jonathan who became acting leader earlier this month, after immense public and political pressure? Has his luck run out already?

At the time of writing this there is still no official confirmation about Yar’Adua’s return or his state of health. But one thing’s for sure if the president doesn’t make an appearance at the scheduled Cabinet meeting this week all hell will break loose.
