People Flock To Watch Birds Playing The Guitar

15 Mar

I came across this when watching BBC News earlier and thought it was rather quirky – it’s also one of YouTube’s most watched clips with over 600,000 views in only 4 weeks.

French artist Céleste Boursier-Mougenot has created an installation at The Curve using a flock of zebra finches and a bunch of electric guitars and instruments. The idea is that as the birds get on with their ‘daily lives’ feeding and perching on the objects, making “a captivating, live soundscape”. Boursier-Mougenot is known for creating pieces  that use “the rhythms of daily life to produce sound in unexpected ways”.

The exhibition is on from 27 February 2010 – 23 May 2010 at The Curve (Barbican) and admission is free.
